Alliance Supports Progress Toward Historic Energy Efficiency Investments

Release Date: Wednesday, November 3, 2021

WASHINGTON – The Alliance to Save Energy applauds the ongoing efforts in Congress to advance historic investments in energy efficiency programs as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and Build Back Better Framework.

“While it has been a long path to this point, we can’t let the process distract us from the fact that both the bipartisan infrastructure package and Build Back Better Framework include transformative policies for unlocking energy efficiency’s potential to decarbonize our energy system and ensure affordable energy costs for all Americans. Funding in these packages would revitalize existing federal efficiency programs for the age of the energy transition and also establish much-needed new approaches to reduce barriers for households choosing to make energy efficiency upgrades. We look forward to reviewing the final package and seeing these policies across the finish line, and the Alliance stands ready to continue working with Congress to expand the role of energy efficiency in domestic climate policy,” said Alliance President Paula Glover.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, passed by the Senate in August, includes billions of dollars in funding for energy efficiency initiatives such as the Weatherization Assistance Program, Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program, support for federal facilities energy efficiency, and expanding broadband access – critical for deploying the next-generation of digital energy technologies. The Build Back Better Framework, which will proceed through the budget reconciliation process, includes crucial updates to energy efficiency tax incentives, rebates for efficient and electric home appliances and upgrades, funding to incentivize deployment of advanced industrial energy efficiency technologies, support for building codes, funding to retrofit critical public facilities, and other needed investments.
