Policy & Advocacy
Buildings
Lower bills throughout a building’s life.
The Alliance’s work
Where efficiency meets policy.
Efficient envelopes, equipment, controls, and maintenance make homes and public and commercial buildings less costly to operate. ASE has long supported building codes and appliance standards.
Codes and affordability
State and local model-code adoption shapes new building performance. ASE commented in 2026 on DOE’s method for weighing affordability and cost effectiveness, including long-term savings.
Products and labels
Equipment standards establish minimum performance. ENERGY STAR helps buyers identify efficient products. ASE is monitoring DOE’s proposed process-rule changes and the program’s transition.
Existing buildings
Weatherization and better controls can reduce waste in older homes and federal housing. ASE raised WAP at Hill Day 2026 and published analysis of low-cost federal housing controls.
