The Department of Health will be holding a public comment period and four public meetings to solicit comments regarding the development of the state’s plan for reducing carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants. The Department is seeking input on several issues as well as any other issues commenter’s believe may be pertinent to the plan development. Additional background on the Clean Power Plan and a list of the issues the Department has identified for comment can be found here.

Kelly Speakes-Backman of the Alliance to Save Energy will talk to participants to give an overview of the Clean Power Plan, Clean Energy Incentive Plan and how energy efficiency can fit in with state plans due in 2016; specifically, Weatherization. If you have been on the fringe of this discussion and want more information, this session will provide Directors with all the information they need to approach stakeholders in their own states and understand the implications and benefits of being part of the Clean Power Plan.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is currently listening to stakeholders regarding the emission guidelines and will provide updated information as it becomes available.  Regional transmission organizations, the EPA's Clean Energy Incentive Program, and the EPA's proposed federal plans and model rules will be discussed during the meeting.
