Energy 2030 On the Road in Ft. Worth Brings Together Local Efficiency Advocates
The Energy 2030 On the Road campaign arrived in the Lone Star state today for the seventh event stop in Fort Worth, Texas. By traveling from city to city across the nation, the initiative is garnering endorsements from local stakeholders to double U.S. energy productivity by the year 2030.
The Ft. Worth event, co-hosted by the Alliance to Save Energy (the Alliance) and South-central Partnership for Energy Efficiency as a Resource (SPEER) and sponsored by Lockheed Martin, consisted of keynote remarks from local leaders in efficiency, including Congressman Michael C. Burgess (R-TX), and panel discussions featuring speakers from a wide range of sectors.
“The ‘everything is bigger in Texas’ adage applies not only to the size of the state, but also to consumer energy bills, which are some of the highest in the nation. By joining in our campaign to double our nation’s energy productivity, Texas business and consumers can reap the economic and other benefits of cutting waste,” said Kateri Callahan, president of the Alliance to Save Energy. “I’m thrilled to see event participants so enthusiastic about achieving the Energy 2030 goal.”
The first panel discussion focused on investment opportunities for boosting energy productivity, with representation from 3M, Lockheed Martin and the Dallas Ft. Worth Airport. Speakers from the Lone Star state at Texas Christian University, the City of Ft. Worth and Oncor Energy later discussed strategies for motivating action through policy and outreach.
“SPEER’s work to improve regional energy performance in Texas and Oklahoma, particularly in the built environment, can only succeed if there is cross-sector agreement on the importance of energy productivity. Today’s Energy 2030 On the Road event is a catalyst for ensuring that the 30 million people living in some of the fastest growing cities in America are reaping the benefits of increased efficiency,” said Doug Lewin, executive director of SPEER.
“The Energy 2030 campaign supports Lockheed Martin’s existing efforts to reduce energy use and emissions from our facilities, and also provides an idea-sharing platform to develop actionable strategies to increase energy productivity across all sectors of the economy,” said Bridget Lauderdale, operations vice president and general manager for Lockheed Martin’s Aeronautics business.
