Scaling Grid Flexibility to Meet Growing Energy Demand: A Virtual Power Plant Roundtable
Thursday, August 13, 2026
1:00–2:30 p.m. ET
This roundtable will bring together leaders from utilities, public power, and national energy organizations to discuss how virtual power plants (VPPs), energy efficiency, demand flexibility, and distributed energy resources can help address growing electricity demand while supporting affordability, reliability, and grid resilience.
Building upon the Alliance's Advancing Virtual Power Plants to Scale: Policy, Market Trends, and Deployment Pathways report, the discussion will explore how these resources are evolving as utilities and policymakers respond to AI-driven load growth, data centers, electrification, and broader grid modernization efforts.
We're pleased to welcome the following panelists:
  • Cristina Botero, Senior Manager, Beneficial Electrification (BE) and Flexible Load Management
  • John Cordi, Vice President, Customer Solutions, New York Power Authority (NYPA)
  • Lakin Garth, Vice President, Regulatory Innovation, Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA)
The discussion will focus on:
  • The evolving role of virtual power plants and flexible demand-side resources in today's electric system.
  • Opportunities to scale grid flexibility while maintaining affordability, reliability, and resilience.
  • Policy and market developments that can help accelerate deployment and improve grid performance.
