Invitation to attend the launch of

Energy Productivity Index for Companies:
Increasing profits while reducing emissions

ClimateWorks Australia and the ClimateWorks Foundation are developing the first global energy productivity benchmark for listed industrial companies. By improving energy productivity in industrial companies, we are seeking to reduce global carbon emissions while providing better returns to investors.

Early research results indicate that

  • Leading companies do 2-6 times better than their peers in energy productivity performance, even in homogeneous sectors
  • Improved energy efficiency performance could deliver between 2% and 10% annual improvement in EBIT for lagging companies.

Join us to hear key insights from our analysis to date, and hear from our panellists on how the findings can be applied by investors on their portfolios. Our panel will include:

  • Brian Rice, Portfolio Manager, Corporate Governance, CalSTRS, lead investor for the project
  • Chris Davis, Director of Investor Programs, CERES
  • Chris Fowle, VP, Investor Intiatives, CDP, data partner for the project
  • Amandine Denis, Head of Research, ClimateWorks Australia

Discussions will be moderated by Dan Hamza-Goodacre, Program Director, Energy Efficiency,The ClimateWorks Foundation. There will be opportunity for questions from the audience.

About our research:
The Energy Productivity Index for Companies project aims to equip investors with the analysis and tools to effectively engage with companies on the issue of energy productivity.

Using data from the Carbon Disclosure Project, we are developing tools to help investors identify and engage with companies for whom improving energy productivity represents a material opportunity.

The world’s thirteenth largest public pension fund, the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS), is participating in the project as lead investor, providing valuable industry knowledge as well as a portfolio of companies to demonstrate the analysis and engagement methodology.

A practical 'how-to-guide' for investors will be published in November this year, as well as a detailed research report which describes our methodology and findings.
