ASE Data Center & Energy Efficiency Initial Briefing
Event Tabs Default Post-Event
The Alliance to Save Energy is convening a bipartisan Data Center & Energy Efficiency Working Group to address one of the most urgent energy policy challenges facing states and the nation: how to support rapid data center and AI growth while maintaining grid reliability and protecting affordability for ratepayers from rising energy costs. Energy demand from data centers is accelerating faster than new generation and transmission can be built. Without thoughtful policy alignment, the result could be upward pressure on consumer rates, reliability challenges, and uneven economic outcomes across states.
To begin this effort, the Alliance will host two open virtual discussions in March, bringing together policymakers, regulators, utilities, technology providers, and other industry stakeholders.
Initial Policy Briefing - This session will provide an overview of the current policy landscape and explore practical, market-based solutions that can help:
· Improve grid reliability during unprecedented load growth
· Enable continued economic development and AI leadership
· Protect residential and small-business ratepayers
· Deploy cost-effective energy efficiency as the fastest grid resource
Date: Thursday, March 19
Time: 1:00 – 2:00 PM ET
Location: Virtual (Zoom)

This discussion will be a bipartisan conversation focused on solutions, not press or public positioning. Participants will receive an overview of the Alliance’s emerging research.
Stakeholder Working Session- Following the briefing, the Alliance will host a working session to gather input from industry experts and stakeholders as we prepare comments related to the growing policy discussion around large data center loads and grid reliability. Recent regulatory developments, including proceedings examining large electricity loads in the PJM region, underscore the importance of coordinated policy engagement. This session will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to help inform practical recommendations grounded in real-world operations.
Date: Friday, March 20
