WASHINGTON – The Alliance to Save Energy’s Board of Directors elected four new members Thursday, welcoming a former member of Congress and several executives from the private sector.

The organization’s new board members are Carlos Curbelo, former Florida congressman and co-founder of Vocero; Mary E. Kipp, President and CEO of Puget Sound Energy; Maureen Tholen, Sustainability Director of 3M’s Safety & Industrial Business Group; and Kevin Poyck, President and CEO, Market Group Americas, Signify.

“We’re thrilled to welcome these new members of the Alliance board,” said Alliance to Save Energy Interim President Clay Nesler. “At a time when energy efficiency is increasingly being recognized as an critical element of a clean energy future and our industry adjusts to the impacts of COVID-19, we are fortunate to have experts like these who can bring forward innovative ideas and valuable perspectives and help lead our organization and industry forward.”

Carlos Curbelo represented Florida’s 26th Congressional District for four years in the House of Representatives where he served on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the Education and Workforce Committee, the Small Business Committee, and the Committee on Ways and Means.

“The Alliance to Save Energy understands that the efficient use and delivery of energy is central to securing a healthy planet and a prosperous economy for rising generations of Americans,” said Curbelo. “I am grateful for the opportunity to join the Alliance’s board and look forward to working closely with my colleagues in advancing solutions and policies that protect the environment and expand opportunity for all Americans.”

Mary Kipp serves as the President and CEO of Puget Sound Energy (PSE), a Washington state energy utility with a commitment to a clean energy future. Prior to PSE, she was President and CEO of El Paso Electric, and earlier served as an attorney for FERC.

“As we are in the midst of both an economic and climate crisis, saving energy is key to addressing both,” said Kipp. “I’m proud to serve on the Alliance to Save Energy board and to work with other allies in this effort to use energy that achieves economic growth, provides affordability for our customers, and helps create a cleaner energy future.”

Maureen Tholen is the Sustainability Director of 3M’s Safety & Industrial Business Group, where she focuses on using the platform of sustainability to create business growth. Previously, she was a technical service engineer at 3M.

“It is a great pleasure and honor to join the Alliance Board,” said Tholen. “3M has been proud to support the work of the Alliance over a number of years. Improving energy productivity helps us all on our path to creating a cleaner environment and a strong economy for all.”

As President and CEO, Market Group Americas, Kevin Poyck leads Signify’s commercial operations in the US, Canada, and Latin America. He works to address customers’ evolving lighting needs and help them achieve their sustainability goals. He previously served as Group President at Hubbell, Inc.

“Sustainability is core to everything we do at Signify, from delivering energy-efficient lighting products and solutions to maintaining carbon-neutral operations,” said Poyck. “I couldn’t be more excited to join the Alliance Board and continue our work to help provide a more sustainable future.”
