Alliance Urges National Governors Association to Make Maximum Use of Energy Efficiency to Fulfill Its Clean Energy Future Initiative
Washington, D.C., September 12, 2007 – The Alliance to Save Energy today lauded the National Governors Association’s (NGA) “Securing a Clean Energy Future” initiative and urged governors to use energy efficiency as the cornerstone for achieving the ambitious goals of the initiative.
Those goals include raising public awareness about the importance of a clean energy future, identifying new opportunities for states to save energy, disseminating best practices, and exploring state-industry partnerships to advance the initiative’s policy goals.
“States have long been leaders in energy efficiency policy and practices, frequently catalyzing federal, nationwide action,” noted Alliance President Kateri Callahan. “We look forward to supporting the NGA’s efforts to ensure that energy efficiency continues to be a vital aspect of U.S. energy policy. We also look forward to helping the NGA achieve its clean energy goals by sharing our experience and expertise in advancing energy efficiency at all levels of government and in all end-use sectors.”
Callahan continued, “The Alliance urges the NGA to look at policies such as strengthened building codes, appliance standards for products not yet covered by federal regulations, energy-efficient government procurement practices, and consumer and commercial tax incentives to drive the market towards energy-efficient products, in addition to the important support for expanded energy research and development already identified under the initiative.”
