Alliance Urges EPA to Prioritize Energy Efficiency in Implementing the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund

Release Date: Friday, March 31, 2023

On Thursday, the Alliance sent a letter, co-signed by thirty of its member companies, to the US Environmental Protection Agency stressing the importance of leading with energy efficiency as it prepares to implement $7 billion of funding from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund to deploy solar technologies.

“Leading with energy efficiency reduces carbon emissions, decreases energy capacity buildout, leads to greater energy affordability and reliability, and results in positive health impacts in low-income and disadvantaged communities,” the Alliance writes.

The letter cites the positive impacts of common energy efficiency investments such as insulation, air sealing, high efficiency equipment, lighting, and controls when paired with solar photovoltaic (PV) systems such as: lower upfront installation costs due to smaller PV sizing; reduced generation demand during peak evening hours; improved indoor air quality and greater bill savings particularly in low-income homes; and reduced carbon emissions.
