Accelerate Energy Productivity 2030 event in St. Paul Highlights Potential of Advanced Manufacturing to Increase Nation’s Energy Productivity

Release Date: Thursday, July 16, 2015

Today in St. Paul, Minnesota, the Alliance to Save Energy (Alliance), the Department of Energy (DOE) and Council on Competitiveness (Council) hosted the third local Accelerate Energy Productivity 2030 event in an ongoing series of city stops, as part of the initiative to double U.S. energy productivity by the year 2030. Nearly 100 attendees gathered at 3M’s Innovation Center for the State and Local Dialogue focused on advanced manufacturing and its potential for boosting our nation’s energy productivity.

President of the Alliance to Save Energy Kateri Callahan said, “It has been inspiring to see the high-level engagement with Accelerate Energy Productivity 2030 in cities across the country, and St. Paul is no exception. Local leaders are seeking new and innovative strategies to boost the region’s energy efficiency, and their actions will support our efforts to reach the goal of doubling U.S. energy productivity by 2030.”

During event stops across the country, the Accelerate Energy Productivity 2030 campaign has garnered goal endorsements from elected officials, businesses, universities and other key stakeholders. Of the more than 120 endorsers to date, a number have submitted Success Stories which explain how the organization faced challenges in starting an energy productivity program, and highlight the benefits gained from program implementation.

“Educating the public in the Midwest about energy productivity is important for addressing region-specific needs and inspiring further action. There are also tremendous benefits from hearing from federal leaders like the Department of Energy’s David Danielson. The value of multiple perspectives throughout this campaign, bolstered by today’s event, will undoubtedly help inspire future collaboration, and I look forward to seeing the eventual impact,” said Stacey Paradis, Executive Director of the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance.

Gayle Schueller, 3M’s vice president of Global Sustainability, said “Our team at 3M is constantly seeking new ways to increase the company’s energy productivity and working to develop products and technologies that help our customers do the same. It’s not just the socially responsible thing to do — it also helps the bottom line. From those in attendance at today’s events and our gathered endorsements of the campaign, it is abundantly clear that other businesses and leaders are already implementing similar strategies. It’s exciting to see how we can inspire one another to keep pushing further efficiency improvements.”

With the input of endorsers and other regional dialogue participants, the Alliance, DOE and the Council will release a roadmap for achieving the shared goal of doubling U.S. energy productivity during the 2015 American Energy and Manufacturing Competitiveness Summit in September.
