Mike Kelly was born in Pittsburgh and raised in Butler, Pennsylvania. Prior to entering Congress, he served on the Butler City Council and was involved in several local and civic organizations. Mike is dedicated to improving education and has founded the Butler Quarterback Club and The Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation. He has also established charitable programs, such as the Mary McTighe Kelly Creative Teaching Grant and the Lighthouse Foundation’s One Warm Coat Program. Mike has been a U.S. Representative since 2011, proudly representing Pennsylvania's 16th Congressional District since 2019. He serves on the House Ways and Means Committee and is the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Oversight. He is also a leader in various caucuses, including the Republican chairman of the Congressional Korea Caucus, the House Automotive Caucus, the Childhood Cancer Caucus, the House Retirement Security Caucus, the Health Care Innovation Caucus, and the House Small Brewers Caucus. Mike is known for his passionate speeches and has appeared on national television programs and written opinion features for various publications. He is well-respected by his colleagues and is considered a "no-nonsense, straight-talking Republican" who is dedicated to representing the values and concerns of his constituents.
