Energy efficiency is an immediate and necessary part of the solution to global climate change.

Necessary Solutions

Climate change affects the environment and people throughout the world. Energy efficiency is the most readily available and cost-effective solution to climate change.

According to a recent study, deploying an array of no-net-cost efficiency measures in buildings, industry, transportation and energy production could reduce U.S. energy demand in 2020 by 23 percent below current projections. This would potentially abate up to 1.1 gigatons of greenhouse gas emissions annually, the equivalent of taking all U.S. passenger vehicles and light trucks of the road for one year.

The Alliance supports the creation of a domestic cap-and-trade program that sets a carbon price, implements complementary energy efficiency policies and invests in complementary energy efficiency programs. A strong climate policy will spur unprecedented levels of energy efficiency and result in smarter resource use in various economic sectors by reducing the costs and increasing the pace of cutting greenhouse gas emissions. In short, energy efficiency is an immediate and necessary part of the solution to global climate change.
