The White House Office of Public Engagement released this manufacturing fact sheet, “President Obama’s Plan to Win the Future by Investing in Advanced Manufacturing Technologies ,” the night of Obama's Jan. 25, 2011, State of the Union address.

According to the fact sheet, Obama recognizes that manufacturing is critical to America’s long-term economic competitiveness and Americans' ability to win the future. It is not enough to invent new technologies in the United States; Americans must also invest in the ability to manufacture those technologies at home.

Obama proposes to support both the development and commercial deployment of advanced manufacturing technologies. These technologies can both revitalize existing manufacturing industries and support the development of new products in emerging industries like clean energy.
