Alliance to Save Energy Celebrates Energy Efficiency Day with New LBNL-Brattle Group Study

Release Date: Wednesday, October 4, 2023
“Energy efficiency has been the workhorse of climate policy for decades and is now the engine that will power the energy transition,” said Paula Glover, President of the Alliance to Save Energy, in recognition of Energy Efficiency Day 2023. “Based on a recent study by Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory (LBNL) and the Brattle Group, the role of energy efficiency in U.S. energy and climate policy is clear, and that investments in the building envelope, demand flexibility, grid-interactive efficiency buildings (GEBs) and enabling technologies, will be indispensable to ensuring that the future of energy is affordable, and reliable,” said Glover. “Energy efficiency already has an out-sized impact on emission reductions, and we anticipate that this will continue for a while as the grid decarbonizes— and if the grid decarbonizes at a slower pace, energy efficiency investments will be required to keep emissions even lower—while also providing reliability and affordability. The amount of generation, transmission, and distribution required to meet our grid decarbonization goals could be prohibitive, but we can substantially meet the challenge and help ensure a just energy transition by leading with energy efficiency first.”
