Austin Energy

Austin Energy is the nation’s 8th largest community-owned electric utility serving more than 420,000 customers and a population of almost 1 million. Austin Energy powers the capital of Texas through a diverse generation mix of almost 3,000 megawatts that includes nuclear, coal, natural gas and renewable energy sources. Austin Energy was the first electric utility in the country to achieve a “conservation power plant” by offsetting the equivalent of a 600 MW power plant from 1982 through 2006 through energy efficiency programs. Austin Energy also developed the first green building program in America and has led the nation in sales of renewable energy by a voluntary program.
