New technologies and business models, many of which are underpinned by advances in connectivity, data, and automation, are rapidly transforming our energy sector to one that is more integrated and time-dependent. With this transition comes an enormous opportunity to broaden energy efficiency to accommodate a wider range of tools that are critical to achieving a more productive use of energy.

During this breakfast briefing the Alliance will propose a new framework – Active Efficiency – that better matches this expanded energy landscape. The Alliance defines Active Efficiency the combination of technologies, practices, and policies that enable the most productive use of energy, considering its rich opportunities across the range of time-dependence and integration, and accounting for the broader range of its impacts, from energy savings and economic productivity to equity, health, and emissions reductions.
