Manager, Strategic Development & Initiatives

As the Alliance to Save Energy's Development and Strategic Initiatives Manager, you will work cross-departmentally and with external stakeholders to support the development and implementation of the Alliance’s strategic initiatives, including the Active Efficiency Collaborative and EE Impact Report. Success in the role will require exceptional project management skills; ability to multi-task and manage deadlines; and a solutions-oriented and collaborative nature. If you demonstrate success and are eager to take on new challenges there will be ample opportunities to grow the position and assume greater responsibility.

 

Organization Overview:

Founded in 1977, the Alliance to Save Energy is a nonprofit coalition of business, government, environmental, and consumer leaders advocating for enhanced energy productivity to achieve economic growth, a cleaner environment, and greater energy security, affordability, and reliability. We are a small team looking for individuals committed to our mission and organizational values to join us as we grow into the next chapter of our 45-year history. We're based in Washington, D.C. and operate on a hybrid work schedule.

 

Development Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and track a complete central repository of development materials and records, including proposals, budgets, teaming agreements, contracts, and reports.
  • Support SVP with identifying and developing grant proposals, accompanying budgets and other materials for submission to corporations, foundations, and government.  
  • Track grant reporting deadlines and work with staff to draft and submit narrative and financial reports. 
  • Support SVP with management of the Development Committee, including drafting and issuing meeting notices, preparing meeting materials, taking meeting minutes, and managing on-site meeting logistics.

 

Program Management Responsibilities:
  • Assist in development and manage cross-department execution of detailed work plans, including budgets, timelines, and KPIs for the Alliance’s strategic initiatives, including, but not limited to the Active Efficiency Collaborative and Energy 2040.
  • Assist the SVP of Strategic Development in reviewing draft initiative budgets; help manage budgets and track monthly financial reports to ensure there are no cost overruns.
  • Manage Alliance staff and contractors assigned to initiatives, ensuring high-quality, timely work and adherence to budgeted hours.
  • Manage Steering Committees, Commissions related to individual initiatives, including developing and maintaining participate rosters, issuing meeting notices, overseeing preparation of meeting materials, taking meeting minutes, and managing on-site meeting logistics.

 

 Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience. 
  • Four+ years of development/project management experience within a non-profit institution or corporation. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SalesForce. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong communications skills.
  • Solutions oriented. Adaptable. Ability to multi-task and work independently.  
  • Team player. Excellent interpersonal skills. Sense of humor.
  • Background in energy efficiency or energy/environmental issues preferred.
