Adams serves as chief strategist for the design and implemantation of goals, policies and programs that benefit Washington Gas and the community it serves. She works in collaboration with WGL's Board and executive leadership to implement initiatives across all businesses that actualize corporate values and amplify brand positioning and business development while reducing risk. Adams works to minimize the effects the business has on the environment, through both internal operations and customer facing programs; promotes social objectives through corporate giving and volunteerism; and advances social equity and sustainability through hiring, training, and procurement practices as well as other policy tools. The Office of the CSRO leads and coordinates all corporate community engagement activities and champions new business models.
Prior to leading this new function, Ms. Adams was Division Head for Utility Sales, Economic Development and Corporate Sustainability. In this role she was responsible for top line utility growth and the development of innovative new business strategies and energy efficiency programs that reduced the region’s carbon footprint while driving energy security and economic development. This included an emphasis on new pathways for natural gas growth including multi-family and transit oriented development, distributed energy projects and CNG fueling, as well as infrastructure extension. During this period, Ms. Adams also established the company’s greenhouse gas emissions strategy and goals, which have led to a 74% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions from utility fleet and facilities, well ahead of the 2020 target.
Adams began her career at WGL in 2001 and previously held Executive responsibility for the company’s marketing functions, introducing social media and digital advertising as well as award winning, innovative sub-brand campaigns and collateral. Ms. Adams began her career at WGL as Chief Investor Relations Officer.
Prior to joining WGL, Adams led the Investor Relations function for a vertically integrated Fortune 500 energy company and was the founding Principal of an energy and environmental consulting practice that provided strategic management, public affairs, and communications support to government, association and corporate clients. She began her energy career at the Edison Electric Institute.
Adams has served and continues to serve on a number of appointed regional commissions and task forces devoted to reducing the carbon footprint of the Washington Metropolitan Area. She was a charter board member of the Association of Climate Change Officers, Chair of the
Sustainable Growth Committee for the American Gas Association, and currently serves as an Executive Board member of the Greater Washington Region Clean Cities Coalition, and is a member of Leadership Greater Washington. Adams is a frequent presenter at conferences on topics including Utility 2.0, distributed generation, and sustainability. She is a graduate of The George Washington University, a certified yoga instructor, accomplished chef, and enthusiastic golfer. Ms. Adams resides in Vienna VA with her husband and is the proud mother of two adult sons and a daughter-in-law.
