Energy efficiency provides an international solution to some of today's greatest challenges.

Cost-Effective Solutions to Global Issues

New market drivers are rapidly expanding the market for energy-efficient goods and services in developing and transitional countries. Though a number of barriers still remain, the energy efficiency market in developing and transitional countries is more robust and vibrant than it was when the Alliance was founded in 1977.

Energy efficiency provides the international community with powerful, cost-effective means to a sustainable future. Energy efficiency can reduce fuel costs, contribute to job growth and improve the lives of consumers worldwide, all while reducing environmental damage.

The Alliance works to achieve energy efficiency throughout the world through programs like Watergy, as well as sister organizations like the European Alliance to Save Energy and the Australian Alliance to Save Energy.

Today I write to you from Cancun, where the COP16 negotiations are winding down – or “fizzling out,” depending on your perspective. The expectations for major progress on global climate treaties remain quite low, despite cautious optimism that meaningful commitments will emerge.  In conversation after conversation, event after event, energy efficiency emerged as the premier “first solution” for tackling global climate change.  In Cancun, the Alliance and the army of other energy efficiency advocates worked hard to translate the growing awareness of energy efficiency into concrete agreements.

U.K.: 'Green Deal' to Expand British Home Insulation Program, Give Free Energy Efficiency Upgrades

A British program to reduce household carbon emissions through home insulation will likely expand to help more residents finance energy-efficient upgrades. Starting in Fall 2012, the “Green Deal” will provide 100 percent financing for the costs of insulation improvements to attics and walls.
