Businesses can improve productivity as well as the bottom line by taking advantage of energy efficiency in office buildings as well as through production processes.

Taking Actions to Become Efficient

Industry surveys indicate that, mainly through procedural and behavioral changes, the average plant can reduce its energy consumption by 10 to 20 percent. Many companies are joining in to do their part in becoming energy efficient.

At the Alliance, we provide numerous forums for the business community to showcase the work it is doing to be energy efficient. Representatives from the business community share their firsthand experiences with implementing energy efficiency throughout their business practices at the Alliance's many speaking engagements, including our annual Great Energy Efficiency Day; Evening with the Stars of Energy Efficiency Awards Dinner; and international energy efficiency conference, EE Global.

How Can We Get More Americans to Make Energy-Efficient Home Improvements?

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory released an Oct. 12 report examining a question that we at the Alliance work to answer daily: How can we persuade the American public to invest in energy efficiency?  From the Alliance’s perspective, the answer should be a no-brainer: Energy efficiency tends to pay for itself, saving consumers money over time.  Yet, most homeowners don’t buy into the idea that the easiest place to save money is their monthly energy bills.

On Sept. 29th, 2010 Senators Jeff Bingaman and Olympia Snowe introduced the Advanced Energy Tax Incentives Act of 2010 (S. 3935). This bill, which was referred to the Finance Committee, is designed to encourage investment in energy efficiency and related technologies through a variety of tax credits. Several provisions are similar or identical to past bills introduced by Bingaman and Snowe. Shortly after introduction, the Senate adjourned for recess preceding the midterm elections. After going out, Snowe and Bingaman released a separate bill draft that would modify and extend the home improvements tax credit. The Finance Committee may choose to take up some or all of these incentives during the lame duck session this year.

Facebook 'Friends' the Alliance to Advance the Cause of Saving Energy

Facebook and the Alliance are now “friends.” The social networking giant is serious about efficiency and is teaming up with the Alliance to help more people save energy, such as through the likable "Green on Facebook" page.

In Facebook’s explosive six-year history, millions of people around the globe have shared stories, made new connections and strengthened old friendships on the social networking site. But what many users don’t know is that Facebook, which boasts more than 500 million users, also is a pioneer in energy efficiency — and the Alliance’s newest Associate member.

From the President's Desk: October 29, 2010

I have very big and exciting news to announce as we close the calendar on Energy Awareness month! The Alliance has put in place a trifecta of initiatives to build global awareness of energy efficiency: we’re launching a brand new consumer website; we’ve established an innovative partnership with Facebook; and we’ve arranged a month-long consumer education “commercial” on CBS’s Times Square Super Screen!

Yesterday, we launched LivingEfficiently.org, which is designed to serve consumers' record-breaking demand for energy efficiency information. To kick off this exciting new web portal—which will help consumers live cheaper, cleaner and better—we teamed up with NASCAR driver and environmental activist Leilani Münter who was named by Discovery Channel’s Planet Green as America’s #1 “Eco Athlete” this year.
