Monique O'Grady

Monique O’Grady joined the Alliance staff as its Vice President of Communications in January 2011. In this role she oversees three Alliance communications specialists, and develops and implements the Alliance’s communications plan and media outreach.

O’Grady brings more than 15 years of broadcast journalism experience to the position. She has worked for local and national TV stations including BET, TECH TV, and Blade Communications. During that time she reported on a variety of stories in Washington, D.C., primarily on Capitol Hill and the White House, including presidential primaries and conventions, inaugurals and daily national political stories.

Her experience includes covering President George W. Bush’s first trip to Africa, New Orleans’ recovery after Hurricane Katrina and the Congressional Black Caucus. Her reports have appeared on cable stations, CBS stations across the country, Hearst television stations, WTTG-TV and WBAL-TV. She was awarded the Paul Miller Fellowship for journalists and was honored by the Congressional Black Caucus for reporting.  

O’Grady also served as the Communications Director for the Rosslyn Business Improvement District (BID) in Arlington, Virginia from January 2008 – January 2011. In that position, she oversaw events, marketing, public relations, advertising, the ROSSLYN Magazine and the Rosslyn BID website. She was also a spokesperson for the BID. 

O’Grady has used her communications background to volunteer in the Arlington community. She has hosted segments on Arlington County’s television station, has emceed the Arlington County Neighborhood Day Parade and for several years hosted an annual Martin Luther King Day tribute held by three Arlington churches. In 2006 she won “Dancing with the Arlington Stars,” a competition to raise money for affordable housing. O’Grady is also a member of the Arlington Arts Commission.

O’Grady has a broadcast journalism degree and a minor in business from American University in Washington, D.C. She and her husband Michael have three children.
