Buildings

Energy codes provide a basic way to build energy efficiency measures into our building stock. A building designed and constructed for efficiency will provide lower energy bills and more comfort for consumers.

The Alliance supports improved building energy codes through several efforts:

  • Upgrading model codes at the national level.
  • Supporting state adoption of model codes.
  • Helping state & local governments implement model codes.

BCAP LogoThe Alliance works through the Building Codes Assistance Project (BCAP), A joint initiative of the Alliance, the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, and the Natural Resources Defense Council. BCAP promotes the adoption, implementation and utilization of energy-efficient construction standards in the United States.

RECA LogoThe Responsible Energy Codes Alliance (RECA) is a consortium of energy efficiency professionals, product and equipment manufacturers, and trade associations. RECA works to improve the energy efficiency of homes through greater use of energy efficient practices and building products. It is administered by the Alliance.

DOE-BECP LogoFor more information for consumers and builders, The Alliance strongly suggests the Department of Energy's Buildings Energy Codes Program website.

Join the Alliance and its many colleagues in supporting a 30% improvement in energy efficiency for the next update of the International Energy Conservation Code (2009 IECC). Read more about the Energy Efficient Codes Coalition and the code proposals that will take us to “30.”
