The Alliance to Save energy was founded in the United States in 1977 with a single office in Washington, D.C. It has expanded into an international organization with major activities in the U.S. as well as more than a dozen other countries. A majority of Alliance programs are still oriented towards the United States, which uses a quarter of the world's energy.
