Thailand

Thailand is a leader in the development and promotion of energy efficiency programs in Asia. In response to growing energy demands, the Thai Government's official energy policy is aimed at developing energy resources and promoting the efficient use of energy to reduce its domestic energy requirements. Developing the capacity of the energy efficiency industry to work in coordination with and in support of the Thai Government on its numerous energy efficiency programs, as well as to strengthen the industry itself, has been one of the Alliance’s major efforts in Thailand.

With support of the U.S.-Asia Environmental Partnership (US-AEP), the Alliance assisted in the creation of the Energy Efficiency Development Association (EEDA) in 2001, a non-profit association comprised of energy efficiency technology and service providers. The Alliance continues to provide technical assistance to EEDA in its efforts to expand markets for energy efficient products and services in Thailand, work with policy makers on energy efficiency issues, provide technical support to government agencies, and administer energy efficiency education and training.
