Household energy costs – 2007 vs. 2008

Based on data from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA), the Alliance to Save Energy has projected the following average U.S. home and vehicle energy costs for 2007 and 2008.

2007 Total: about $5,100
Home energy: more than $2,100
Gasoline costs: almost $3,000

2008 Total: about $6,150, about 20 percent more than in 2007
Home energy: about $2,350
Gasoline costs: about $3,800

In August, EIA projected that gasoline prices would average $3.65 per gallon in 2008, 30 percent higher than the 2007 average price and about 42 percent higher than the 2006 average price.
