According to a recent white paper by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE),energy efficiency appliance standards are creating jobs and saving consumers and businesses money throughout the United States. Energy savings occur when new, energy-efficient equipment is purchased, which reduces utility bills for businesses and consumers. Over time, ratepayers spend the money saved on such items as home improvements. These improvements and services tend to be more labor-intensive than where money would be spent in the absence of standards (power plant construction and fuels), creating a net increase in jobs and wages.
