If you are a government procurement official or lighting specialist, you now have a new online tool for street lighting.

The Street Lighting Evaluation Tool provides a free, quick, and easy way for government procurement officials and lighting specialists to screen fixtures in street lighting upgrades and retrofits. In many areas where street lighting contributes to significant electricity consumption and expense, this tool can be used to realize energy as well as cost-savings. The SEAD tool performs photometric analysis as well as energy consumption and life-cycle cost computations for common road geometries. The tool also allows comparison of multiple candidate fixtures simultaneously.

The tool was developed and launched by the Alliance to Save Energy, CLASP, the Department of Energy, and other SEAD partners. SEAD stands for the Super-efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment Initiative, which is an international initiative that engages governments and the private sector to accelerate market transformation of energy-efficient equipment and appliances.

SEAD partner governments are exploring ways to disseminate the tool to enable faster and easier transition to more energy efficient street lights.
