Following an assessment by West Virginia University’s (WVU) Industrial Assessment Center (IAC) in 2005, Jergens, Inc. implemented wide-ranging energy efficiency measures at their Cleveland, Ohio plant. Jergens significantly upgraded the efficiency of the plant’s lighting and also improved the efficiency of the facility’s compressed air systems. These measures resulted in annual energy savings of 287,000 kWh, or about 16% of the plant’s energy consumption. Simultaneously, the plant was able to expand its production capacity. With a total investment of $42,000, the project achieved a simple payback of slightly more than two years.
