With rising energy prices this winter, it's time to look at your home's "physical fitness" to see how you can easily cut energy bills and increase comfort simultaneously.

"From programmable thermostats to lighting sensors, today's home energy-efficiency technologies can do the work for you," says David Nemtzow, president of the Alliance to Save Energy, a coalition of prominent business, government, environmental, and consumer leaders. "It may be time to replace your heating or air conditioning systems-or those old windows, appliances, and electronics. So look for the Energy Star label for the most energy-efficient choices that cut your energy bills and pollution by 30-percent."

"When checking the insulation in your home, a good place to start is the attic -- and be sure you have the proper level of insulation for your region of the country," says Ken Mentzer, president of the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association.
