Repower Bremerton references the Alliance’s Power$mart™ as a guide for simple money-and-energy-saving solutions. Repower Bremerton is a community-based energy efficiency program that the city of Bremerton, Wash., started after receiving a BetterBuildings award from the Department of Energy in 2010.

The Alliance is one of the leaders of the LUMEN coalition- a group of lighting manufactures, associations, and retailers, which was mentioned in this month’s edition of Architectural Lighting. The article clarifies the light bulb debate and announces lumennow.org as a website that was launched to, “…clarify the issues that surrounds this debate.”
The Environmental Leader quoted Alliance President Kateri Callahan on an article that highlighted President Obama's fuel economy standards that will force cars and light trucks to achieve 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025.

The Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance’s (SEEA) Director of Municipal Energy Efficiency Programs Tamara Jones and Alliance President Kateri Callahan were interviewed by Atlanta’s Fox5 TV station for Simple Steps Can Save Energy at Home. Tamara describes the noticeable difference in her monthly energy bills after sealing and insulating rooms that used to be either too hot or cold. The story offers other tips for saving energy and money, including using a ceiling fan running and changing your inefficient incandescent to efficient light bulbs.
Alliance Senior VP for Policy and Research Floyd DesChamps was quoted on greening the nation’s federal buildings in a story on the OMB “scorecards” on federal energy efficiency progress by SolveClimateNews.com. Steven Goldman of the Alliance’s policy team replied to their questions with an optimistic view about making federal facilities more efficient and livable.
The Drive Smarter Challenge, powered by the Alliance, was included in a list of resources by Austin’s Your News Now (cable TV station) to educate driver on maintaining the upmost efficiency when gas prices are on the rise.
Environment America posted an article about the International Codes Council’s new 2012 International Energy Conservation Code, which is 30% stronger than the 2006 code it replaces. The story referenced Alliance savings figures, including the fact that the code will allow American homes and business to save over $40 billion annually in energy costs by 2030.
The Building Codes Assistance Project (BCAP) was acknowledged in The Salt Lake Tribune for its finding that “building homes to the latest energy code would save households between $175 and $200 each year on energy bills, even when accounting for any increases in mortgage or construction costs to build to the code.”
Silicon Republic of Ireland dedicated an article to selection of The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland as one of the Alliance’s Stars of Energy Efficiency. The project has supported the upgrade of more than 100,000 homes since 2009.

Last week the House of Representatives failed to muster the required 2/3 majority needed under special rules to pass the so-called BULB Act, which would have repealed the energy-efficient lighting standards enacted on a bipartisan basis in 2007. The hot topic sparked a lot of media interest, and Alliance experts were quoted in a Climate Wire story posted by The New York Times and by the Miami Herald, D.C.’s NBC Washington, Grist and Consumer Reports.
The Alliance was also quoted by The Hill in a broader appliance standards story.
The Alliance’s support for the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act, S. 1000, cosponsored by Honorary Alliance Board Chair Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) was covered by ApplianceMagazine.com, as the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee approved the bill on a bipartisan 18-3 vote.

EnergyNOW! and the Alliance are producing a series of short tips instructing viewers on how to practice energy efficiency in the home. The latest videos include information on Energy Star Appliances, Tankless Water Heaters and HVAC Filters. These clips are shown on the energyNOW’s website, as well as segments on the local D.C. WJLA ABC7 Sunday morning show.

Energy efficiency can help lower the costs of hot summer months, reported the Philadelphia Inquirer, which referenced the Alliance on tips to keep your energy bill low and your comfort level high. Suggestions included installing a programmable thermostat, replacing air conditioning filters and changing the way you use your household appliances.
In a Climatewire [by subscription only] story, the Alliance's Building Codes Assistance Project technical director Mike DeWein explained that the problem with speculated indoor health risks in efficient buildings are not the energy efficiency components, but poor technique by builders and retrofitters.
Fox News Radio interviewed Alliance President Kateri Callahan during Memorial Day weekend. Callahan offered tips on efficient driving and ways to knock down hefty prices at the pump.

The new bipartisan energy efficiency bill was rolled out by Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Rob Portman (R-Ohio) – with support from the Alliance – would offer appliance standards and job growth, as documented by Politico, E&E News [by subscriptions only], Platts Energy Week, Appliance Magazine and TMCnet.com The bill aims to help the United States regain its economic footing and global leadership by deploying energy efficiency widely across the nation.
EE Global's Extreme Efficiency Makeover earned recognition for retrofiting the residence of the U.S. ambassador to Belgium by AOL Energy, which commended the Alliance's informational video for its broader applicability.
Energy Manager Magazine referenced the Alliance in its January-March issue, which reported the Alliance's involvement in the implementation of municipal water and energy efficiency projects in India.
The Alliance's Green Schools program caught the attention of Long Beach, California's Daily Pilot when they helped effectively save Mariners Elementary School $2,637 on their electric bill, lowering their average usage by 13.6%.

Alliance President Kateri Callahan joined forces with Ed Crawford, CEO of Philips, to pen an op-ed for The Hill’s Congress Blog to shed light on the future of the light bulb. The new lighting standards not only will provide consumers with even more choices, said Callahan and Crawford, but they also will allow the average family of four to save more than $200 a year just by using more efficient bulbs. Additionally, backtracking from the new standards means that “American businesses that continue to produce only the same products will be outpaced by international competition.”
Energy-efficient investments don’t only help you go green. As Forbes shared on its blog, upgrades like additional home insulation can provide federal tax credits.
