Alliance to Save Energy Earth Day 2000 Video News Release Shows Consumers How to Cut Home Energy Bills, Pollution
"TVs, VCRs, computers, microwaves. We’re more plugged in than ever before. This year on its 30th anniversary, Earth Day 2000 focuses totally on the link between energy and the environment," notes an Alliance to Save Energy Earth Day 2000 video news release that illustrates how consumers in their own homes can easily cut home energy bills and related pollution and emissions.
"We chose energy as a theme because every environmental issue – directly or indirectly – has an energy basis to it," explains Earth Day Network Chairman Denis Hayes on the video. Hayes heads Earth Day 2000 (April 22) which will involve half a billion people worldwide. "Whether or not we change the climate of the planet is a function not only of government policy but also of all of the decisions that each of us make in our everyday lives," he concludes.
"One of the best ways to protect the planet on Earth Day is to use energy more efficiently," suggests Alliance to Save Energy President David M. Nemtzow. "Using energy efficiently doesn’t mean doing without; it doesn’t mean being cold or sitting in the dark… It means using a light bulb that produces just as much light with less power. It’s the efficient answer, the high tech answer."
Videotaped at energy-efficient, ENERGY STAR homes, with extensive home energy b-roll footage, the video news release also has sound bites from residential energy experts Rick Gerardi of New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and Duane Larson of Pacific Gas and Electric Company.
