Alliance to Save Energy Adds New Online Energy/Environmental Lesson Plans To Meet Educator Demand for Earth Day 2000
With half a billion people around the globe expected to participate in Earth Day 2000, which will focus totally on energy, the Alliance to Save Energy has expanded the popular educator area of its web site to meet teacher demand for free energy and environmental lesson plans.
From measuring the calories in sunlight to creating a more energy-efficient home, a new high school science lesson plans section examining these and other energy-related topics has been added to elementary and middle school science lesson plans on the site, bringing the total to 27 lesson plans that can be easily integrated into classroom work.
Earth Day 2000, the 30th anniversary of Earth Day, for the first time will focus on one topic — energy — because energy production and use account for about 80 percent of air pollution and 88 percent of greenhouse gas emissions.
"With Earth Day 2000 right around the corner, this is the perfect time for schools to incorporate energy-oriented lesson plans into their curriculum. The earlier we teach the next generation about energy and the environment, the more promising the next millennium will be," states Alliance President David M. Nemtzow who was motivated through his education and the energy crisis of the ‘70s to devote his career to this field.
With a click of the button, teachers can view the hands-on, multidisciplinary lesson plans directly from the web site or download them in PDF format to provide student handouts and activities.
In addition, the Alliance to Save Energy’s consumer area of its web site offers an interactive Home Energy Checkup and a delightful animated version of its consumer booklet, Power Smart: Easy Tips to Save Money and the Planet. A free copy of the print version of the Power Smart booklet is also available in by calling toll free: (888) 878-3256.
The Alliance will add a new Earth Day 2000 section to its web site in February featuring information, a contest with valuable home-energy prizes, and entertaining and educational animated web features.
