Michael Terrell is a Policy Counsel for Google where he helps lead Google's efforts to contribute to the public debate on clean energy and climate change issues.  In this capacity, he has built alliances with major companies and NGOs, successfully advocated for state and federal clean energy policies, and represented Google through testimony before state and federal policymakers, speaking appearances at conferences and events, and as a regular contributor to the Google public policy blog.  Most recently, he has led Google's efforts to empower energy consumers with better information and control over their energy use, including building a coalition of over 45 leading businesses and NGOs in support of national energy information goals.

Prior to joining Google in 2007, Michael was an Associate at Van Ness Feldman, a leading U.S. energy law and policy firm.  Michael served in a variety of positions in the U.S. government and was a member of the White House energy and environment team during the Clinton Administration.   He served as the deputy chair of the Clinton Global Initiative’s Energy and Climate Change Working Group in 2006 and 2007, is a Founder of the Clean Economy Network and serves on the board of the Demand Response and Smart Grid Coalition.
 
Michael holds a B.S. in Natural Resources from the University of the South, a Masters in Environmental Management from Yale’s Environment School, and a J.D. from the University of Michigan.
