George Biltz is corporate vice president of The Dow Chemical Company and vice president, Energy & Climate Change. In this role Biltz is accountable for delivering Energy business profitability, power production at the 13 Company-operated power plants, as well as steam and utilities and energy service to more than 120 manufacturing facilities globally. In addition, he is accountable for the Company’s energy conservation and greenhouse gas emission reduction efforts, including implementation of clean energy solutions at operating sites around the world. Biltz also leads Dow’s global advocacy presence in the areas of climate change and energy public policy.
Biltz joined Dow in 1978 in Manufacturing. After progressing through a number of production roles with increasing responsibility, he transferred into field sales in Rochester, NY in 1984. Biltz returned to Midland, MI in 1986 and held several marketing roles before becoming global business director for Superabsorbent Products in 1994. In 1995, Biltz was named global business director for the Polyglycols business in Specialty Chemicals. In August 1999, Dow announced its intent to acquire ANGUS Chemical and Biltz was appointed to lead the integration team. Biltz was subsequently appointed to the role of president and CEO for ANGUS Chemical, based in Buffalo Grove, IL.
In March 2001, Biltz was named vice president of Custom & Fine Chemicals and relocated to Horgen, Switzerland. In this role, he oversaw the creation of Dowpharma. In June of 2001, Biltz assumed additional responsibility as president & CEO of Ascot. In this role he led integration of the Ascot acquisition. Biltz returned to Midland in January 2004 to assume the role of business vice president for Ventures and New Business Growth. He was subsequently named vice president of Global Purchasing in March 2005.
In March 2007, Biltz was appointed business group president for the Specialty Plastics and Elastomers portfolio and later assumed additional leadership responsibility for the Dow Portfolio Optimization group, focused on accelerating Dow’s strategic divestment and JV plans. In December 2008 Biltz was named Corporate Vice President for Strategic Development & Planning. In June 2010, he was named to the Mergers & Acquisitions role. In these roles Biltz was accountable for the development and implementation of Dow’s corporate strategy and for long-range planning on an enterprise-wide basis. Biltz was responsible for the evaluation of all Dow businesses, with the objectives of defining strategic opportunities to maximize their longterm value to the corporate portfolio and enabling the effective prioritization of corporate resources. He was also accountable for driving implementation of strategic portfolio management plans, including the development of new business models, acquisitions, joint-ventures and divestitures.
Biltz currently is the chairman of the Midland/Bay City/Saginaw (MBS) International Airport Commission, serving on the operations committee and as chairman of its marketing committee. Biltz is also a member of the Detroit Economic Club. Biltz holds a Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Detroit and an MBA from Central Michigan University.
