Representing the Stockholm-based European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy at the Alliance's October 2010 Efficient Lighting Phase-In Webinar, Executive Director Nils Borg discussed the EU’s phase-in of energy-efficient lighting. The EU used an interval system that eliminated an increasing number of frosted and clear incandescent bulbs from 2009 to 2010.
Faced with some initial consumer resistance, the transition to CFLs was ultimately widely accepted, thanks to efforts such as a “war room” that provided immediate responses to invalid rumors and factual distortions.
