Congressman Michael Burgess serves on the House Energy & Commerce Committee and its Subcommittee on Energy & Environment, which has sole jurisdiction over energy policy within the U.S. House of Representatives.  Burgess has been a champion for energy efficiency since joining Congress, holding an annual Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Summit each summer in North Texas to highlight responsible ways citizens can improve home, business and automobile efficiency.  Burgess not only touts efficiency during Congressional debates, but does so at home as well.  While building a new home in 2005, Burgess incorporated several energy efficient measures, including an energy efficient attic system, a tank less water heater, an energy efficient air conditioning system, and light-colored shingles, among others, to reduce his home’s electricity usage and save energy.  Burgess also drives a Hybrid vehicle.

Burgess was recently elected to serve as an honorary Congressional vice-chair for the Alliance to Save Energy.
