The Southeast Industrial Energy Efficiency and CHP Regional Dialogue Meeting will focus on developing and implementing state best practice policies and investment models that address the multiple barriers to greater investment in industrial energy efficiency and combined heat and power (CHP). Specifically, Southeast industrial energy efficiency and CHP successes, opportunities, and new approaches will be discussed—all with an eye toward state policy.

The meeting builds on the August 30, 2012, Executive Order: Accelerating Investment in Industrial Energy Efficiency by fostering a regional dialogue to discuss best practice state policies and investment models that overcome the numerous barriers to investment in industrial energy efficiency and CHP.

This event follows on the success of the June 21, 2012, Midwest Regional Dialogue Meeting in Columbus, Ohio. A Northeast/Mid-Atlantic Regional Dialogue Meeting is planned for March 13, 2013, in Baltimore, Maryland.

Background: The industrial sector accounts for more than 30% of all energy consumed in the United States, and for many manufacturers, energy costs affect overall competitiveness. While U.S. manufacturing facilities have made progress at becoming more energy efficient over the last several decades, there is an opportunity to accelerate and expand this improvement with investments to reduce energy use through more efficient manufacturing processes and facilities and the expanded use of CHP. Accelerating these investments in our nation’s factories can improve the competitiveness of U.S. manufacturing, lower energy costs, free up future capital for businesses to invest, reduce air pollution, and create jobs.

To address these challenges, the U.S. Department of Energy, in coordination with SEE Action's Industrial Energy Efficiency and CHP Working Group, is hosting regional dialogue meetings that bring together key stakeholders to focus on developing and implementing state best practice policies and investment models that address the multiple barriers to greater investment in industrial energy efficiency and CHP.
