The integration of data from smart devices, building systems and enterprise applications is becoming a key enabler to achieving higher levels of energy efficiency.  Advanced analytics, optimal controls and enterprise dashboards will support building operators in identifying energy improvement opportunities, detecting system faults and minimizing energy use.  Connectivity with the smart grid will allow automated coordination of on-site generation, energy storage and electric vehicle charging to provide dynamic demand reduction and real-time grid regulation services. After presentation of a future "Day in the Life of a Smart Building" scenario, several case studies of advanced smart building technology applications will be discussed.

Clay Nesler is the Vice President, Global Energy and Sustainability for the Building Efficiency business of Johnson Controls.  In this role, he is responsible for the company’s sustainability advisory and enterprise integration services businesses as well as energy and sustainability strategy, policy, innovation and the Johnson Controls Institute for Building Efficiency.  He also serves on the company’s global environmental sustainability council.  Since joining Johnson Controls in 1983, Clay has held a variety of leadership positions in research, development, marketing and strategy in both the United States and Europe.

The Yale Center for Business and the Environment (CBEY) is pleased to launch our fifth annual online webinar series.  This year’s series will continue Blueprint for Efficiency, with an emphasis on the latest developments and opportunities for energy efficiency in the private sector. Through weekly presentations from leaders in the corporate, non-profit, and public-private arenas, we will explore a range of topics around energy efficiency.

This year’s series is a unique collaboration between the Yale Center for Business and the Environment and the Alliance to Save Energy (ASE).  Founded in 1977, the Alliance is a Washington, D.C. based nonprofit organization that works solely to promote energy efficiency worldwide through research, education, and advocacy.

Blueprint for Efficiency is supported by the Yale Center for Business & the Environment and the Alliance to Save Energy.  The series will take place from October 2011 through May 2012. It will be free and open to the public through online webcasts that will be conducted on a weekly basis.  Each presentation will be recorded and made available to the global community through Yale University's iTunesU channel.
