Biking, walking, carpooling and taking public transportation to the office is business as usual for the Alliance. But on Sept. 22, 2011, even more staff members left their cars at home for World Car-Free Day.
World Car-Free Day is celebrated in hundreds of cities worldwide, but it’s not the only day devoted to car alternatives. More cities than ever before are supporting regular car-free days, such as Bogata’s Ciclovía and San Francisco’s Sunday Streets, according to Car-Free Day’s Eleanor Blue.
Walking the Walk
On Sept. 22, Alliance staff in Washington, D.C. joined 11,000 residents in the region who pledged to go car-free, breaking last year’s registration number.
Alliance staff members also have been riding the wave of sustainable commuting by participating in alternative transportation events such as Bike to Work Day; view photos and event coverage from 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Driving Energy Efficiency
We conserve energy by going car-free, but energy efficiency is not about sacrifice; rather, it's about doing more with less energy. So, you don't have to give up your car to be energy efficient! Check out the Alliance's tips on how to be fuel-efficient when you don't go car-free.
