At 22 college campuses across California, students are educating their campus communities about the benefits of energy efficiency through our Green Campus Program.
These are Green Campus interns, employed by the Alliance to help save energy at campuses in California. They work with faculty, staff, administrators and other campus organizations, often influencing operational practices such as purchasing decisions while also saving their schools significant amounts of energy and money.
Student Leaders Save Energy
The Green Campus Program engages and trains students to build pathways to green careers, realize measurable energy savings, infuse energy and energy efficiency concepts into academic curricula and promote energy efficiency outreach.
What does this look like? Picture career panels focusing on green jobs, retrofits for old buildings, lectures in the classroom about energy issues, energy conservation competitions between residence halls, and more…all projects facilitated and initiated by students.
The Next Generation
Today's Green Campus interns are tomorrow's energy professionals. Upon graduating from the program, they carry forth hard skills and energy efficiency know-how, making them ideal candidates for jobs in the sustainability field.
A large number of Green Campus interns now hold positions in leading companies and nonprofits. And as they pursue these exciting new careers, their alma maters will continue to save energy from Green Campus-led initiatives.
