Many industrial stakeholders are familiar with ITP’s Save Energy Now program that began in October 2005. Under this program, industrial companies that partnered with ITP were able to receive no-cost energy assessments. Initially, the assessments focused on steam and process heating systems in the most energy-intensive U.S. industrial plants.

In 2007 ITP expanded its efforts by allowing assessments on pumping, compressed air, and fan systems. Since its inception, Save Energy Now has performed energy assessments in more than 2,300 industrial plants that have identified more than 180 trillion Btu in energy savings with the potential to save $1.3 billion and 11.2 MMTCO2 annually.

Recently, ITP has changed the focus of Save Energy Now to strengthen its corporate and state partnerships and improve resource delivery. In December 2009, ITP launched the Save Energy Now LEADER initiative that aims to achieve a 25 percent reduction in industrial energy intensity over a 10 year period.

To participate, companies commit to reducing their facilities' energy intensity by 25 percent in 10 years. In return, ITP provides technical assistance and priority access to no cost assessments and other technical and financial resources to help them meet the program goal.

This approach is consistent with ITPs renewed strategy to improve resource delivery by focusing on partnerships, tools, trainings and technology demonstrations. Non-LEADER companies will still be able to access the full range of ITP resources including software tools, training sessions and Webinars, and publications such as fact sheets, case studies, newsletters and sourcebooks.
