When it comes to building codes, even the most forward-thinking state can gain insight from its neighbors on how best to develop and implement innovative policies that go beyond the national baseline standards.
To faciliate this conversation, the Building Codes Assistance Project (BCAP) recently published a series of fact sheets on building energy efficiency policy for all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. These are hosted on BCAP's website in PDF form.
These two-page fact sheets provide policymakers and stakeholders with information on the current status of state-wide building energy codes.
They also estimate the potential state-specific benefits of implementing the latest national model building energy codes (the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code and ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2007), including projected energy, economic and carbon savings.
Each fact sheet prescribes measures to advance the state's building energy policy, with data drawn from a wide variety of online sources.
