NACo Challenges Counties to Drive $marter

Can you win a race by using less fuel? The National Association of Counties (NACo) thinks so. As one of its Green County Competitions, NACo is encouraging residents of the nation’s 3,066 counties to take the Drive $marter Challenge (D$C), the successful consumer campaign developed by the Alliance to Save Energy and supported by the Wal-Mart Foundation, NACo and 15 other campaign partners.

To date, 59 counties have pledged to promote ‘smart’ driving among their residents by directing them to www.drivesmarterchallenge.org, where they can access an interactive fuel calculator, as well as driving and maintenance tips that will save them more than a few bucks at the pump. Placed in one of three population groups (small, 50,000 and under; medium, 50,000 to 250,000; and large, over 250,000), counties have from now until November to get as many residents as possible to take the challenge on the D$C website. Winners from each population category will receive 1,000 bottles of fuel additive/cleaner from campaign partner, AutoZone, and national recognition from NACo.
