The Alliance to Save Energy is saddened to report that John P. Mamone, the Alliance’s much-loved Chief Financial Officer, passed away on Aug. 31, 2010.

“John contributed significantly to the Alliance, both professionally and personally,” said Alliance President Kateri Callahan.  “John and Finance Director Dan Hooks built a wonderful finance team, which has propelled the Alliance toward becoming ‘best-in-class’ for non-profit financial management.”

The Alliance dedicated this year’s Energy Efficiency Awards Gala, which was held on Sept. 14, to John’s memory.

A ‘Gregarious Soul’

John was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and grew up in Southern Maryland. After graduating from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, he married and raised a family in the D.C. area. Since 2002, John worked as an association management consultant, serving as an acting Executive Director/CFO for nonprofit organizations.  He joined the Alliance in 2009.

An avid music and sports fan, as well as the consummate host, John “will be celebrated for his humor and infinite hospitality,” according to the Washington Post’s obituary.

“John was a hale, generous and gregarious soul,” noted Callahan.  “He never failed to offer a smile and a warm word to all.  He was a delight to be around, and all of us at the Alliance will miss him sorely.”

John is survived by his wife, three children and three brothers. A visitation was held on Friday, Sept. 3, in Springfield, Va., and a funeral was held the following day. The Washington Post’s obituary includes an online guest book with more than 25 comments.
