Greening the Campus, Building the Workforce

In January of this year, President Obama instilled hope in job seekers in the energy field – including those from the Alliance’s Green Campus Program – with the following words:

"First we must take bold action to create a new American energy economy that creates millions of jobs for our people. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan ... places a down payment on this economy...It will put 460,000 Americans to work with clean energy investments and double the capacity to generate alternative energy over the next three years. It will lay down 3,000 miles of transmission lines to deliver this energy to every corner of our country."

Alliance Associates with a stake in this new energy economy and a need for new green-minded staff should know that Alliance Green Campus graduates are prime candidates for hire. As student interns with the program, they are guided by Alliance staff who help them develop the soft skills they will need to manage projects, communicate, write effectively and work on a team, as well as the hard, technical skills to hone their energy-related know-how.

The program works with students who are pursuing degrees that range from engineering and environmental science to management and communications; all participants are well-versed in energy efficiency. This in mind, the Green Campus program is a great outlet for any energy efficiency job opportunities your company or organization may wish to announce.

The program often hosts career panels and job-shadowing opportunities that serve to bridge the students' academic and internship pursuits with the professional energy world. These can be great networking opportunities for both parties involved: interns can learn more about your company or organization, while you can learn more about the energy needs of the higher education sector, and the skill level of its most recent graduates.
