As part of the Alliance to Save Energy’s fifth international energy efficiency conference, EE Global, organizers have announced an executive dialogue – The Roadmap for Continual Industrial Improvement – dedicated to exploring recent developments in industrial energy management. Following a banner year for industrial energy efficiency, including the release of ISO 50001 and the inaugural round of plant certifications under the second demonstration phase of the Superior Energy Performance program, this panel will feature international industrial perspectives to discuss how global markets are embracing energy management.
ISO 50001, An International Energy Management Standard
Moderated by Ms. Wang Yanjia, a professor and lecturer at China’s Tsinghua University, this session will feature a panel of three speakers intimately involved in the implementation of the ISO 50001 international energy management standard. This includes, Mr. Tae Won Moon, a Korean energy practitioner who will discuss South Korea’s experience in implementing ISO 50001.
ISO 50001 represents a leap forward in global energy efficiency as the first recognized standard that engages industrial, commercial, and institutional entities to make energy efficiency part of their ordinary management practices. In so doing, industrial and commercial entities demonstrate their commitment to sustainability through transparent management of energy and certification with a market-facing standard.
Panelists will explore the evolution of ISO 50001 and its potential impact on manufacturing operations worldwide. Experts may also share their perspectives on the uptake of the market-based standard in the world’s foremost manufacturing markets.
Forward-Looking Energy Management
Beyond compliance with market-based standards, such as ISO 50001, systematic energy management has emerged as a best practice among manufacturers, yielding impressive energy savings. Panelists will also include plant-level perspectives to share individual experiences in coordinating energy efficiency efforts, and elevating the management of energy resources to the executive level. For many of the world’s most efficient manufacturers, this cultural shift in energy management has been influenced by key performance indicators, signaling energy efficiency as a fundamental element in modern manufacturers’ competitive strategies.
