Chosen by the Alliance’s 2010 Honorary Board Chair Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), the prestigious Chairman’s Award this year will go to Cathy Zoi, the Department of Energy's Assistant Secretary of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE).
The award will be presented on Sept. 14 at the Evening with the Stars of Energy Efficiency Awards Dinner, which celebrates energy efficiency trendsetters with 500+ members of Congress, industry leaders, high-level government officials and federal agency staff. Zoi has long been a champion of energy efficiency, even before her days as chief of staff for environmental policy in the Clinton Administration. Prior to her appointment as EERE assistant secretary, Zoi served as the founding CEO of the Alliance for Climate Protection, a nonprofit organization chaired by former Vice President Al Gore that is dedicated to increasing awareness of and solutions to global warming.
While at the Alliance for Climate Protection, Zoi and Gore created the Repower America challenge, whose mission is for 100 percent of U.S. electricity production to come from sources with zero carbon emissions within 10 years.
In addition to Zoi, the Sept. 14 awards dinner will recognize USGBC President, CEO & Founding Chairman Rick Fedrizzi; Danfoss; U-Haul; Environment Canada; Efficiency New Brunswick; the Cincinnati Zoo and OPOWER for their energy efficiency contributions.
