Alliance Receives Four Stars from Top Charity Evaluator

On May 1, 2011, the Alliance received the highest available rating for overall management from Charity Navigator, America’s top independent evaluator of charities. By conveying a four-star rating, Charity Navigator classifies the Alliance as an organization that “exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in its Cause.”

Reasons for Top Rating

Charity Navigator rates U.S. charities based on their financial health, organizational capacity and efficiency in program delivery. The Alliance has grown dramatically in each of these categories since receiving a one-star rating from Charity Navigator in 2007. Highlights of the recent four-star assessment include:  

• A high program ratio: Most of the Alliance’s budget goes toward support of programs, while a smaller percentage is used for administrative expenses.
• Annual growth in revenue: The Alliance continually grows its programs and services through corporate sponsorships, individual donations, and foundation and government funding. The Alliance now manages an average of 50 different programs each year, supported by government, foundation, corporate and individual donors.
• Effective fiscal management structure: The Alliance employs rigorous internal and external controls to ensure the financial integrity of the programs and the organization as a whole.

Rating Underscores Solid Investment of Donating to the Alliance

According to the Charity Navigator website, “Givers can be confident that in supporting those charities rated highly by Charity Navigator, they will be supporting organizations that are fiscally responsible and financially healthy.”  Current donors to the Alliance can rest assured that their contribution is being well-managed and going toward the effective advancement of the Alliance mission to “…promote energy efficiency worldwide to achieve a healthier economy, a cleaner environment and greater energy security.”
