During the first week of June, Alliance President Kateri Callahan traveled to Atlanta, Ga., to participate in Southern Company & Georgia Institute of Technology’s Grid ComForum East.
Smart Grid Technology Advances Energy Efficiency in the Southeast
Callahan spoke as part of the keynote panel “Visions for the 21st Century Grid” moderated by Chris Baltimore, the Houston Bureau Chief of Reuters. The panel also included Thomas Fanning, chairman, president and CEO of Southern Company; G.P. “Bud” Peterson, president of Georgia Institute of Technology; and John Estey, president and CEO of S&C Electric Company.
Speaking on the opportunities for energy efficiency in the smart grid, Callahan challenged the 600-member audience to consider the importance of efficiency in new technologies being developed and deployed in the Southeast region.
Green Innovation Lights the Way at Acuity Brands
During her visit to Atlanta, Callahan took time to meet with Alliance Associate Acuity Brands to discuss its innovative approach to sustainable lighting solutions.
Callahan met with Acuity Brands Lighting Executive Director Mark Black, Acuity Brands Controls Senior Vice President and General Manager Steve Lydecker and Vice President of Marketing Cheryl English. Touring Acuity’s facilities, Callahan learned about the company’s indoor and outdoor LED light bulbs, as well as its lighting control systems, which use motion sensors.
In addition to viewing Acuity’s inventive products, Callahan saw first-hand Acuity’s strong sustainability commitment.
